I am getting the following error when I submit the unified diff on the mission assignment. I don't understand why.
I used the following command:
diff -u diffsingle_original.txt diffsingle_modified.txt > patchsingle.txt

Here are my 3 files (original, modified and resultant patch)

Can someone give me a clue ? I'd really like to understand what I am doing wrong.

I see from the forums the instructions used to be different. You did remember to update the submission box, so that it doesn't expect the diffs of the old mission? I'm asking because no matter how I interpret the two ambiguities above, I can't seem to get it to work. (I think I have tried all the permutations by now).

Here is the diff of what I think is the most reasonable attempt, giving each copied line its own paragraph (so there are no single "\n" at proper end of lines.

i have been trying to clear off the svn 'mission'.
i'm stuck at the last stage viz. 'committing your changes'
I have made the necessary changes blue hats and the plenipotentiary thing.

there were some conflicts in the read me [this occurs no matter how carefully i try doing this change making]
i was able to resolve and merge them,using svn.[blu from mine version and the rest all from their version]

when i finallly upload the changed files i get a failure ith the error message 'commit blocked by pre-commit hook exit code 1 with no output'

OS: win 7 64 bit, SVN verion 1.7.5.22 [64bit again]

let me know here i'm going wrong.

I don't think I saw anything else on this question in forum.

I'm on windows XP pro. I'm working on the "patch" mission. I had to download the patch command. When I run it from the command line, I get the response: "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information."

Any suggestions on how to fix this? (I used the command as described in the mission assignment).

I am trying to compile the ghello.c file from mission 1 on ubuntu 11.04.
I have installed
$sudo apt-get install libgtk-3-dev

and am trying to compile with
$gcc -Wall ghello.c -o ghello `pkg-config --cflags gtk+-3.0` `pkg-config --libs gtk+-3.0`

which compiles fine, but when I try to run it, I get the error

but when I try to install canberra, its already there

$libcanberra-gtk-module is already the newest version.

I didn't find any instances of aubergine with capitol letters. There was no file extension, so I didn't know what to use on it, but notepad was able to open it, and it contained plain text.

When I ran diff -ur, I only got a message that the binary files were different. I don't think you can patch that, can you?

I also feel like something must be wrong because diff says these are binary files, but when you open them with notepad, you can view plain text.

In the patching exercise, we learned how to apply an existing patch, but it didn't show us how to create one. In the diffing individual files, diff just produced some text that was piped to the console. So are we supposed to copy it and save it as a patch file?
